Free AI & SEO Content Freshness Checker

See which content needs an update, and how urgently. Enter your website, one page or a sitemap: the checker finds when each page was last updated and looks for old years in titles, claims about a future that has passed, outdated terms and sources that no longer exist.

or (.xml, .xml.gz or .txt, max 10 MB)

Free, no sign-up. Checks up to 100 pages, articles first.

What this check can't tell you

Dates are only half the story

This tool shows what looks outdated. It cannot see which pages are actually losing visitors, or what to do with them.

  • Which pages are losing traffic or rankings (that needs your Search Console data)
  • Whether the content still matches what people search for today
  • Which pages to refresh, merge or remove, and in what order
  • What competitors now cover that you do not

That is what the SEO & AI Visibility Review is for: a €495 expert diagnosis of your main blocker, a prioritised opportunity map and a clear next step, explained in a video walkthrough.

What this check looks at

Last updated date

Update and publish dates in structured data, meta tags, <time> elements and visible "Updated on" lines.

Content age

Every page gets a status: Fresh (0–6 months), OK (6–12), Update (12–24) or Outdated (24+).

Old years in titles

A past year in the title, H1 or meta description, such as "Best tools 2024".

Expired future claims

Sentences about something that "will" happen in a year that is already over.

Dated statements

Present-tense claims and statistics tied to a year at least two years old.

Outdated terms

Renamed or discontinued tools and terms, such as Universal Analytics or Google Bard.

Sources

External links that are broken, removed or point to old studies.

Date signals

Sitemap dates that are generated instead of real, dates that contradict each other, and an old copyright year.

The check samples up to 100 pages, articles first, and tests up to 80 external sources. Traffic decay and content quality are covered in a review or content audit.

FAQ

How does the content freshness checker work?

Enter a website, one page or a sitemap. The checker reads up to 100 pages, articles first, finds the most reliable update date per page and looks for signals in the text that the content is out of date. Every page gets a status, and the findings are ranked by impact.

Why does content freshness matter for SEO and AI search?

For many topics, search engines prefer current information, and searchers click less on results that look old. AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews also favour sources that are clearly maintained. Outdated facts, broken sources and old years in titles undermine trust.

Does every page need a recent date?

No. Evergreen pages can stay valid for years. But for time-sensitive topics such as tools, prices, regulations or statistics, a yearly review is a good rule. The checker shows where to start; you decide what really needs updating.

Why are my sitemap dates called unreliable?

If almost every URL in your sitemap has the same date, or today's date, the dates are generated rather than set when content changes. Google then learns to ignore them. Real lastmod dates help search engines recrawl updated pages faster.

Is this the same as a content audit?

No. This tool measures dates and textual signals automatically. A content audit also looks at traffic and rankings over time, search intent and competitors, and decides per page whether to refresh, merge or remove it.
